Kathy Davis Obituary
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52:7
After spending a full life devoted to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ, our beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, treasured friend, and faithful servant of the Lord, Sister Kathy Plaxico Davis, age 73, met the promise of her Savior on the morning of Friday, July 18, 2025. With peace in her heart and Heaven in her view, she stepped into her eternal home and was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Bro. Clyde, her precious children, Nova and Russell, and all those who had gone before her in Christ.
Though our hearts ache with sorrow, we find deep and abiding comfort in knowing that Sister Kathy has been forever healed and is now experiencing the fullness of every promise she spent her life proclaiming. Her faith never wavered, her voice never tired, and her mission was clear-to point others to Jesus. From pulpits to porches, from prayer meetings to everyday moments, she shared the Gospel with grace, conviction, and joy.
Funeral Service honoring Sister Kathy's life will be at 3 PM Monday, July 21, 2025, at New Life Mission Church with Bro. Mike Green sharing words of comfort, Bro. Allen Baggett reading the eulogy, and Bro. Robert Johnson sharing the committal at the church. In traditional fashion, visitation will begin at 5 PM on Sunday evening, July 20, 2025, at New Life Mission Church and will continue until time of service on Monday. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery with a closing prayer shared by lifelong friend, Bro. Doc Shelton.
Born on January 1, 1952, in Tippah County, Mrs. Kathy was the daughter of the late Ellis Edward and Rachel Inez Richardson Plaxico. She was a 1969 graduate of Falkner High School and, after receiving a flurry of love letters from her sweetheart upon his return home, she married her soulmate on December 24, 1969-Bro. Clyde Junior Davis, who preceded her in death. Together, they became a beacon of light in their community, partners not only in marriage but in ministry, faithfully living out their calling to lead souls to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Like the Lord they served so faithfully, Sister Kathy and Bro. Clyde were ministers on the move-tireless in their efforts, bold in their witness, and compassionate in their love for others. In the early 1980s, they founded New Life Mission Church creating a sanctuary where countless lives were changed and many hearts came to know Jesus.
Though the ministry was her deepest calling, Sister Kathy also delighted in the beauty of everyday life. She took pride in her home, creating a warm and welcoming haven filled with faith, love, and a little flair-whether she was decorating a new corner, cleaning with care, scouting treasures in a thrift store, and admiring the beautiful flowers in her yard.
Her greatest earthly treasures, however, were her grandchildren, who lovingly called her "MeMom." Her presence in their lives was a gift beyond measure-she was their prayer warrior, their storyteller, their safe place. Her arms were always open, her prayers always spoken, and her love always unconditional.
There is so much we could say about a woman who was called to preach at the tender age of 15, but Sister Kathy would gently remind us that it was never about her-it was always about Jesus. Her legacy is not measured in sermons preached or miles traveled, but in the lives she touched and the souls she helped lead to Christ. Her prayer was simple yet eternal: that Heaven would be crowded with those she loved. Her life was her ministry, her joy was her Savior, and her reward is now her reality. "Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew 25:23
Those left to carry on her wonderful legacy include her daughter Jessica Deaton (Darrick), one sister, Debbie Jackson, two brothers, Charles Plaxico (Jeanette), and Don Plaxico (Brenda), seven grandchildren, Lydia Rowell (Mike), Chelsea Burns (Greg), Tanner Davis, Caleb Crum, Dillon Davis (Rebecca), Erika Davis(Dalton Hurley), and Kaitlyn Deaton(Joe Dawson), nine great grandchildren, Payslie Russell, Sykes Rowell, Paxon Russell, Waylon Davis, Cooper Rowell, Kayson Davis, Gregory Burns, Grayson Burns, and one on the way, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by one daughter, Nova Crum, one son, Russell Davis, one brother, Calvin Plaxico (Frances),brother in law, Larry Jackson, and niece, Mandy Plaxico.
