Kaye Clegg Obituary

Kaye Clegg

Tupelo- Sharon Kaye Clegg, 81, was welcomed into her Heavenly home on Friday, December 27, 2024, while vacationing with her family in Turks and Caicos.

Kaye was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on September 22, 1943, the daughter of Maxine Loraine Courtwright Wise. At the age of 15, Kaye met her future husband, Milton Clegg, and they became high school sweethearts. On June 20, 1964, while Milton was a senior at the University of West Virginia and Kaye was working full-time as a beautician, the couple married.

After a few relocations, they eventually settled in Florence, Alabama, where Kaye attended Florence State Teachers College, graduating with honors. The family later moved to North Carolina, and then to Atlanta, Georgia, before finally settling in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1973 to follow Milton’s career.

Teaching was a lifelong passion for Kaye, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to helping others learn. Kaye devoted 45 years to public elementary education, retiring in 2009 from the Tupelo Public School District. During her career, she earned a Master’s degree from the University of Mississippi, reflecting her commitment to professional growth and excellence in education.

In retirement, Kaye shifted her focus to her family, dedicating her time and energy to her grandchildren’s academic and personal achievements. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her loved ones and was deeply involved in their lives. Vacationing with her husband, son, and grandchildren brought her immense joy, creating treasured memories they will hold forever.

Kaye’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family and the students whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable career. Kaye was a longtime member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Kaye is survived by her husband of 60 years, Milt Clegg; son, Marcus Clegg, and his wife, Angela; two granddaughters, Autumn Elizabeth Clegg, and Ainslee Kate Clegg all of Tupelo; and sister, Mary Gordon of Benwood, West Virginia.

Her mother, Maxine Wise preceded her in death.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until services time Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring Kaye’s extraordinary life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Rob Armstrong officiating with son, Marcus Clegg and granddaughters, Autumn and Ainslee Kate providing the eulogy. A private graveside service will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park.
