Mary Stewart

Furrs Community-Mary Rose Bell Stewart lived 97 years, 2 months and 14 days in her earthly pilgrimage before joining the heavenly caravan the minute she died at NMMC at 8:10 pm on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Mary was born in Paris, Tn. to the late Morris Bell and Grace Withsell Bell. She spent most of her growing up years in the tiny community of Sarah in Tate Co., MS. At age 13, she married Lloyd Stewart in l942. Mr. Stewart died on April 22, l981. After living a time in the Oxford area where she spent almost 20 years as a seamstress for Kellwood Industries., she relocated to Tupelo where she spent another 20 years as a seamstress for Hunter-Sadler Mfg. Sewing was a great part of her life because she had to make a living but she loved sewing clothes for her family at home as well. At age 81, she was baptized at Boguefala Baptist Church where she was a member until her death. A great cook, she prepared large meals for her family. She loved keeping her yard especially tending to her many flowers (a master green thumb). Her heart was large and generous as she took care of anyone in need. A loving, caring soul, she loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren. She was an instrumental figure in many children's lives even though they were not her blood relatives. A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025 from the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with her pastor, Bro. David Perry officiating. She will be buried at 1 PM on Wednesday at Yellow Leaf Cemetery near Oxford. Visitation will be from 10 AM-service time on Wednesday morning only. Mrs. Stewart is survived by her daughter, Maxine Rooker (Lee Rooker, deceased) of Tupelo, her don, Dennis Stewart (Pam) of the Furrs Community; her grandchildren, Donnie, Rawdy, Samantha, Ray, Beverly, Lisa, Daryl, Mary Elllen and Eddie; several great and great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd, 4 children, James, Tommy, Billy and Glen; 2 brothers, Son and Wayne Bell, 2 sisters, Margaret Holliman and Johnnie Roberts, two grandsons, Wiilliam Glen Stewart and Rocky Russell Stewart and 2 granddaughters, Tammy Russell Coleman and Tina Savage.
