Merle Plunkett Obituary

PONTOTOC - Merle Patricia Crawford Plunkett, 77, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2025, at Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo, MS. Born on March 2, 1948, in Red Bay, AL, to Mike and Mary Crawford, Merle was an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and wife. Despite facing many challenges and obstacles throughout her life, she triumphed with strength and perseverance. She was a true fighter, giving her all every single day. Although she is no longer here, her spirit will live on through her family, who loved her more deeply than she ever realized. Words cannot capture just how remarkable she was. Over her lifetime, she lovingly raised three generations and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband, Larry Plunkett, her daughters, Lisa Compton and Ann Margaret Compton, son, Keith Plunkett, her grandchildren, Destiny Slaughter, Carissa Slaughter, Leslie Hale Plunkett, Shianne Wisener (Jonathon), Dalton Suddieth (Beth), Chelsea Stacks, Connor Stacks, and Cooper Stacks, 20 great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Lynn Rigby and Margaret Ann Creamer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Max Crawford, Judy Crawford Rock, and Maxine Thomas, and her son, Michael Lee Slaughter. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 834 Ripley Rd, Baldwyn, MS 38824, with Bro. Ricky Barnett officiating.
