Mildred Quinn Obituary

Mildred McIntosh Quinn, 96, lifelong resident of the Bradley community in Oktibbeha County, died peacefully on September 15, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, at Montgomery Gardens in Starkville. Mildred was born March 31, 1929, and graduated from Longview High School, which was consolidated into the Starkville schools in the 1950's. She particularly enjoyed her participation and leadership in the Longview School Alumni Association for many years. She was married to Reginald S. Quinn for 42 years until his death in 1989. Along with her husband, Mildred owned and operated Quinn's Grocery in Bradley, and for 30 years it was the spot for neighborly visiting and catching up on community happenings. It was also an election polling place, a responsibility that Mildred loved. Later, it was the site for the Bradley Opry where country music musicians played on Saturday nights. After selling the store, she worked in the ticket office for Music Makers at MSU. In all these roles, Mildred was doing what she did so well: meeting, greeting, and making people feel welcome. She never met a stranger. A woman of unwavering faith, she was a long-time member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, volunteering in many areas, and was currently a member of Sturgis Baptist Church. Mildred was well known for her wonderful Southern cooking, especially her scrumptious cakes. It was hard to choose between the caramel or the coca-cola cake to go along with her delicious chicken and dressing. You could count on her house to be beautifully decorated for every holiday, and her green thumb was evident in her lovely yard filled with flowers. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Snowden (Allen) of Moorhead, MS and Judy Decker (John) of Jackson, MS and Jan Quinn of Orlando, FL, along with grandchildren, Quinn O'Bannon, John Decker, Jr. (Emily), Dale Cook (Graham), Rachel Dorsey (Bryan), and Jenna de Manincor. She also leaves great-grandchildren, Leta and George Decker, Ann Felder, and Tucker Cook, Regan Souther, Avery Cundiff, and Adalyne and Elijah Bohannon, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, James Ohnie and Myrtie McIntosh, along with her brother, James and sister Helen. Funeral services will be held at Sturgis Baptist Church on Friday, September 19, 2025, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the service at 11:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Fund, the Oktibbeha County Humane Society, or to a charity of choice. The family would like to acknowledge with deepest appreciation the love and care of the staff at Montgomery Gardens Assisted Living Center, along with the many expressions of love, concern, kindness, and prayers shown to them during this loss.

Yesterday

My dad (Fred Wolf) and I would stop frequently at the grocery there on our way to and/or from my Uncle Ray's place on Silver Ridge Road for hunting or fishing. Dad would get cigarettes, (candy for me - usually "Stage Planks" and a RC ) and he'd end chatting with this sweet old (to this youngster) lady there. Until I was done and begging him to take me fishing. Good times, and a good soul. She will be missed.
