Sherry Carr

Tupelo-Sherry Frances Thompson Carr, 72, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Sanctuary Hospice of Tupelo. She was born April 10, 1953, in Chickasaw County to the late Fred Wilson Thompson and Sarah Frances Taylor Thompson. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University and achieved AAA licensure at the University of Mississippi. She spent nearly 40 years as a teacher in Houston, Nettleton and Tupelo schools. Sherry was an avid reader, enjoyed volunteering at the Tupelo Flea Market, and liked going to Ole Miss games, but nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, especially as Mimi to her grandchildren. Sherry also was a faithful member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church of Tupelo.

She is survived by her husband Don Carr; two sons, Jason Carr of Nashville and Justin Carr (Brandy) of Tupelo; grandchildren Christian Carr, Skylar Carr, Kendyll Carr, Mattie Kate Carr and Sarah Carr; and sister Mary Anne Sanders (Harvey) of Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 at West Jackson St. Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Cochran and Brother Chris O'Daniel officiating. Burial will be at Tupelo Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 11 AM Wed. until service time at the Church.

Active pallbearers will be Christian Carr, Baden Honeycutt, Bobby Carr, Phillip Rowan, Eddie Sullivan, and Joe Norman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Killough, Stephen Cole, and her longtime Sunday School Class, Women of Faith, at West Jackson Street Baptist Church.
