Sherry Cusanelli Obituary
Sherry Marie McDaniel Cusanelli, age 67, of Carrollton, AL went to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 26, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dean McDaniel; stepfather, David Barrentine; maternal grandparents, Norman and Mary Alice Abston; and paternal grandparents, Harvey Estelle and Annie Ree McDaniel. Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, Bob Cusanelli; her mother, Dot Barrentine (special friend Doug Wharton) of Aliceville; two sons, Robert Cusanelli of Carrollton and John Cusanelli (Misty) of Decatur; one daughter, Carol Brewer (Brian) of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Gage Brewer (Angel), Lucian Brewer, Tristan Brewer, and Riley Brewer; and one great-grandchild, Oaklynn Rose Brewer.
Sherry was a 1976 graduate of Pickens Academy and received her BSN at Mississippi University for Women. After a 30-year career in nursing, she earned her master's in nursing education from Grand Canyon University and went on to teach at Bevill State Community College until her retirement in 2024.
Sherry's hobbies and enjoyments included music, painting, traveling the world with her husband, and doting on her grandchildren.
An active member of Carrollton Baptist Church, Sherry served as the church organist, sang in the choir, and taught Mission Friends and VBS. Sherry loved Jesus and dedicated her entire life to the Lord. She would share her testimony with anyone, anywhere, and any time the Spirit led her to do so.
Sherry fought a 12-year battle with cancer and through her illness she was able to minister to many others also battling the disease. Her steadfast faith serves as an inspiration to countless people as she relied on the Lord to give her strength through her long fight.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Seekers Sunday School Class at Carrolltom Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff and physicians of Baptist Memorial Hospital, Atlanta Integrative and Internal Medicine, and McMinn Clinic for their dedicated care and treatment as Sherry fought cancer. We would also like to extend a special thanks to Sherry's sitters, drivers, nurses, and other caregivers during the last two months of her life.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2025, at Carrollton Baptist Church with Bros. Robert Heard, Mike Griffin, and Wes Jones officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Memorial Gardens in Aliceville, AL with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 8:30 pm Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Skelton Funeral Home.
