Charles Price Obituary

CHARLES SHELDON "CHARLEY" PRICE, 86, a native of West Virginia, died peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1938 in Rock Lick, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roscoe Price and Gaye Price (Perry), his siblings John R. Price, Curtis Price, Kathleen Belcher, Boris Price, Iris Price, Audrey Boggs, Connie Price, Ferris Price, Betty Puckette, Shirley Broom, and his first wife, Mary Lou Price.
He is survived by his sister Darlene Bailey and his children: Stephanie L. Price, Melanie Grant (Danny), Travis Price (Melissa), and Brittany Epling (Jordan) and her mother Kathy Doss. Charley was a beloved grandfather to Aaron Grant, Caleb Price, Kelsie Price (Jordan), Dylan Grant (Maggie), Watson Epling, and Walker Epling. He will also be dearly missed by his nephew Ferris "Red" Price, great-nephew, Stevie Belcher and his special friend and neighbor, Timmy Miller, and a host of other family members.
Dad's life was a rich tapestry of service and hard work. An Army veteran, he was stationed in Germany at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis. When you met him, he would immediately tell you that he was a veteran, and soon after, you'd hear stories about his children-our families and careers. His professional life was just as varied: he worked as a master welder in Cleveland, Ohio, and for Eastern Coal Company. He taught welding classes for Boone County Schools in the 1970s and delivered mail as a part-time rural carrier in the Van area for many years. In the 1980s, he owned The Mountaineer Packette, a small grocery store and restaurant.
Dad enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR races. He collected antiques and knives and enjoyed giving knives as gifts to the men in the family. He often made peanut butter fudge from a hand-written recipe in mom's handwriting. He loved sharing fudge with anyone with a sweet tooth.
Visitation is scheduled for 2 p.m., on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Handley Funeral Home in Danville. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Scottie Elswick, will follow at 4 p.m. Burial will take place at Jasper Workman Cemetery in Bald Knob, WV.
