Charles Yanov Obituary

Charles Andrew Yanov, 79, of Charleston, WV passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024 at

Hubbard Hospice House, surrounded by his beloved family. Chuck was the kind of person you

never forget. From an early age, he knew how to make an impression! Never afraid to speak his

mind, or stand up for what he believed, Chuck was a natural leader. Married to his high school

sweetheart, Linda Vinson Yanov, for nearly 59 years, Chuck lived a full life of laughter and love.

After graduating from Charleston High School, Chuck served in the Army as a combat medic in

Vietnam and later enlisted in the Army Reserves. He served in the U.S. Army for a total of 26

years. As a member of the Carpenter's Union #1207, Chuck traveled extensively as

Superintendent for DeJager Construction. After the death of his oldest daughter Kimberly,

Chuck chose a new career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (from which he retired), in

order to stay home with his family. In both work and life, Chuck taught by example. His work

ethic and dedication were legendary.

Chuck loved without bounds and had a talent for making others laugh. His joy and compassion

were contagious; his light could brighten any path. Always a rock of support for those around

him, he understood that one must stumble in order to learn and grow; providing gentle

reassurance along the way. If you fell, he would pick you up, tend to your wounds, and then

explain what you did wrong!

Chuck took great pride in his country, serving both at home and abroad. His dedication to

honoring America, was challenged only by that to his family and to God.

Preceded in death by daughter Kimberly Yanov, father John Yanov, mother Eloise Stalnaker

Yanov, and brothers William F. Yanov and John P. Yanov.

Survived by wife Linda Vinson Yanov, daughter Andrea and son-in law Mike Hannah, daughter

Lindsay and son-in-law Daniel Johnson, grandchildren Piper, Vega, and Cale, sisters Donna

Taylor and Marilyn Dodd, and many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces.

A service to honor the life of Chuck will be held at 1:00pm Saturday Feb. 24, 2024 at

Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston, with nephew Eric Simmons officiating.

Family and friends may visit from 11:30 am to 1:00pm; service immediately following. Burial at

Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston.

The family would like to share their appreciation for the care and dedication shown by Hubbard

Chuck and I served together in the 38th Ordnance Group, roughly 30 years ago. He graciously allowed me to ride with him to a training at Fort Eustis, VA. We had several enlightening conversations that trip. He was an inspiration to me, and others. R.I.P., Chuck. To his precious family: you're in my thoughts and prayers.
