Dorothy Mae Thaxton

DOROTHY MAE THAXTON, 96, of Charleston, West Virginia, entered her heavenly home on September 2, 2025.
A devoted Christian, Dorothy was a faithful member of Mile Fork Gospel Tabernacle, where she joyfully served in many areas of ministry, especially through teaching children's Sunday school. Her life was a testimony of faith, service, and love.
Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker, a gifted cook, seamstress, and quilter, and above all, an extraordinary mother to her three children: Ken Thaxton (Debbie), Rita Silman (Gary, deceased), and Glen Thaxton (Jennifer), of Brooksville, FL.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Calvert Thaxton (1998); her parents Curtis and Laura Surface, who lovingly raised her from the age of two; her biological mother, Helen Rohrig; brothers Richard Mace, Donald "Dude" Mace, and Harry Mace; sister Helen Bonovitch; and half-brothers Stanley and Stanford Rohrig.
Left to cherish her memory are her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Brian Thaxton (Ben and Abbi Thaxton), Jason Thaxton of Altoona PA (Mia Thaxton), Bradley Thaxton (Liam and Adin Thaxton), Sara Thaxton (Benjamin Thaxton); Melanie Silman Glazier (Charles) of Peachtree City, GA (Sam and Megan Glazier); and Brantly Thaxton (Tiffany) of Palm Bay, FL (Brynleigh and Braylon Thaxton). She is also survived by her half-sister JoAnn Conigli, half-brother Stewart Rohrig, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and her precious dog, Muffy.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her longtime caregivers--Sue, Betty, and Rose--whose kindness, devotion, and loving care blessed Dorothy's life and brought comfort to her family. Deep appreciation is also given to the staff at Hubbard House for their compassion and support.
A graveside service will begin 11 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Floral Hills Garden of Memories Mausoleum, with Pastor Rob Lemon officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m., at the cemetery.
