Edward Garfield Obituary

EDWARD WILLIAMS GARFIELD III "Ted or Teddy", 66, of Myra, West Virginia passed on December 24, 2023, at Lincoln Health Care Center from lung cancer. Ted was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 27, 1957, the oldest child and only son of Edward Williams Garfield, Jr. and Linda Lou Cain. He was the great, great grandson of James A. Garfield the 20th president of the United States.
Survivors are two sisters Elizabeth Klanac, Marjory Theobald, a half-sister Sue Hawley (Mark), two nieces Kate and Lauren and nephew Kevin.
Ted moved to West Virginia in 1987 with the encouragement of friends who had moved there earlier looking for a more peaceful, simple lifestyle. Ted built his own home and lived off of the grid. He worked as a day laborer to help pay for everyday living expenses. He was active in his community of old friends and new friends that had moved in with the same dreams and the local people that he had become friends with.
There were many work parties with the building of new homes in the area and Ted was always willing to be a part of helping others. Ted loved music and was a huge fan of perusing flea markets. He was a very private and humble person and did not speak ill of anyone. All of his family and friends wish to thank all that were there for him through the years. Also many thanks to all of the staff, too numerous to list separately, at Lincoln Health Care Center that took great care of him during his stay there.
Koontz Funeral Home is in charge of final arrangements. Ted's interment will be in the Bennis Cemetery on the hill where he lived and the home he loved.

I also grew up with Ted in Cleveland Hts. He was a very sweet man. Played softball with him at Canterbury School, worked together at Jerry's Sohio on Lee Rd. He was a big part of our Cleveland Hts Family. He will be missed.

Teddy was a good friend, grew up together in Cleveland Hts, taught me how to play pool, started my love for collecting coins, tried to ride a unicycle like he did, enjoyed climbing the Cherry tree, playing sports. Always a smile on his face!
