Jake Halstead Obituary

JAKE HALSTEAD, 65, a lifetime resident of Marmet, WV, passed away on January 22, 2024, at his home. He was born on February 12, 1958, to Ralph and Shirley Halstead.
Jake was a dedicated grandfather, father, former Marmet City Council Member, and a retired employee of Kroger's, where he dedicated over 30 years of his life. Fun, outgoing, loving, and an active member of the community, Jake was known for his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, building and flying remote airplanes, and spending time in the beautiful outdoors, particularly in Pocahontas County.
Jake took on many roles throughout his life, but his favorite and most meaningful role was that of a grandparent. His grandsons, Anson Anderson, Alden Anderson, and Colston Walker, were the center of his world and held a special place in his heart. Jake cherished every moment spent with them.
Jake was survived by his daughter, Rachel Halstead, and his sisters, Hilda Halstead, Hope Webb (Mike), Diane Whelan (Kevin), and Holly Farrell.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Halstead, his mother, Shirley Halstead, brother-in-law, George Zitek, and niece, Nadya Zitek.
In honoring Jake's wishes, there will not be a memorial service at this time. He wished for his body to be donated to science. However, a celebration of life will be held at a later date to celebrate the joy and love that Jake brought into the lives of those around him.
In remembrance of Jake, contributions can be made to the Periodic Paralysis Association or the Arbor Day Foundation. The Periodic Paralysis Association supports individuals and families affected by periodic paralysis, and donations can be made at https://periodicparalysis.org/campaigns/give-on-giving-tuesday/.
The Arbor Day Foundation allows for the planting of commemorative trees in honor of loved ones, and contributions can be made at https://shop.arborday.org/commemorative-trees-for-others?producttype=TIM.

I will truly miss you Jake. You have always been a very good friend to me,you always made me welcome in your home. I will never forget our long conversations sitting in your back yard or living room. You are a man I will never forget and you are a man I'm glad that I had the pleasure of meeting. It broke my heart when I heard of your passing,we had just talked a week before and I was telling you about how good my son was doing in school and you were saying how proud you were of your grandsons. Rest in peace my good friend, you will always be thought of and missed Jake. Your friend Paul Chapman.
