James Edward "Herman" Kidd Jr.

JAMES EDWARD "HERMAN" KIDD JR., 70 of South Charleston, WV, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 in High Point, NC, after courageously battling a long-term illness.
Born in South Charleston on February 26, 1955, Herman was the beloved son of James E. "John" Kidd and Geraldine Kidd. He was a 1973 graduate of South Charleston High School and attended WV Tech and WV State College. He later began a long and dedicated career with Union Carbide, where he proudly worked for 43 years before retiring.
Herman was preceded in death by parents, John and Geraldine Kidd and his uncle and aunt, Don and Madeline Miller. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Polly Jane Moore Kidd, son, Josh Kidd (Olivia), his pride and joy grandson, Abram James "Abe Abe" Kidd, sister, Patricia Morris (Al), sister-in-law, Kathy Moore, as well as cousins, nephews and nieces.
Herman found peace and joy near the water, whether it was the ocean, boating and skiing on a lake or river, or sitting by a quiet riverbank. From childhood, he enjoyed family vacations at Myrtle Beach, a tradition he carried on throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and treasured golf trips with his buddies and vacations with family.
After retirement, Herman and Polly purchased a second home in North Myrtle Beach, where they built special friendships and made lasting memories. He will be remembered for his fierce strength, words of wisdom and the love he had for his family and friends, especially, his little buddy, Abe.
The family wants to thank Mark and Allison Mosley from the bottom of their hearts for coming to Polly's rescue. Your kindness and support in that moment meant the world and will never be forgotten.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston. Graveside service will be held at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens at 2 p.m., 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313. A reception to celebrate Herman's life will be held immediately afterwards at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home.
