Jerry D. Fox

1931 - 2025

Jerry D. Fox, 93, was born in Hinton, WV. At the age of thirteen he moved with his parents, Oliver and Margaret, to Charleston, WV. As a young teenager Jerry attended Randolph Street Baptist Church. It was here that two life-changing events happened. First, he committed his life to Jesus Christ and made a reservation in Heaven. On Tuesday, January 14, 2025 God called in this reservation and Jerry entered into the presence of Jesus. He was living in Charlotte, NC. Secondly, Jerry met and married Jean Waybright. She is the woman he loved for 58 years until her passing in 2010.

After graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1950 Jerry began employment with Union Carbide Corporation and retired after 30 years of service. He and Jean were members of Bible Center Church for over fifty years and actively participated in numerous church activities. For many years Jerry was a greeter at Sunday church services offering a bulletin and warm smile to everyone he met and also participated in multiple short-term mission trips. He loved to travel and visited all 50 States and numerous foreign countries.

All his adult life Jerry lived on the West Side of Charleston. He enjoyed walking throughout the Edgewood neighborhood sharing his wonderful sense of humor and jokes and offering assistance whenever he could. He never met a stranger and there was seldom a neighbor or dog he did not stop to visit with! Jerry loved to garden and give homegrown tomatoes and cucumbers to his many friends and neighbors.

Jerry is survived by sons Steven of St. Albans and Randy (Ginger) of Charlotte, NC and four grandchildren. Appreciation is expressed to his lifelong friend Jim Bupp and many wonderful Beech Avenue neighbors who kept a watchful eye on him during his later years.

A private family memorial service will take place at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in South Charleston, WV.
