Johnny Ray Prowse

JOHNNY RAY PROWSE, 68, of Charleston passed away peacefully at home, Friday, October 10, 2025, after a long illness surrounded by family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Rosie Prowse; brothers, Charles Prowse, Tom Prowse, & Dick Prowse; sister, Sue Nichols.
Johnny was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than gathering his family together in one place. Johnny was a proud union tradesman, retiring from the international brotherhood of boilermakers Local 667. His last several years before retirement, he left a big impact teaching the apprenticeship of boilermaker's program.
Johnny was the kind of guy that would work shifts of 6 days a week, 10-hour days, and then spend his Sunday's helping family and friends with projects. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, boating, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara Brininstool Prowse, daughter, Lindsay (Rocky) Keister; son, John (Tanya) Prowse; brother, Hank Prowse and Gary Prowse; sisters, Connie Calabrese, Pam Thomas, and Lynn Rankl; grandchildren, Tristan, Madison, Alexis, Isabella, and Addie; and many special friends that were more like "family."
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the charity of your choice. A service will begin 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor David Keeney officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.haferfuneralhome.net.
