The family of Joseph Edward Halstead, known to most as JoJo or Joey, is devastated to announce his sudden passing on July 18th, 2023, after several days of putting up the ultimate fight of his life. Joey's unwavering faith in God and in Heaven undoubtedly led him straight into the arms of his heavenly father, his beloved father Ed Halstead and all of his loved ones who have passed on before him.
Joey was born on Friday, July 6th, 1973 in Charleston, WV to Charles Edward (Ed) Halstead and Karen (Boggs) Halstead Burrows. He grew up in St. Albans, WV on Dogwood Road with his parents and younger brother, Travis. He was a 1991 St. Albans High School graduate and studied at West Virginia State University.
Joey was an accomplished competitive fighter, training in martial arts at 7 years old, eventually becoming a 2nd Degree Blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do, the youngest in WV State history at the time. Additionally, he was educated in Aikido and Jiu Jitsu.
Joey competed all over the country and even internationally. He was a proud member of the US Team, bringing home a silver medal for his country in the late 1980s at a US Team international tournament.
Joey was also a member of the Apache Motorcycle Club, forming lifelong friendships that endured long after his motorcycle days.
Joey was employed as a chemical operator for Covestro in South Charleston, WV where he viewed his co-workers as family members. He felt true and strong bonds with his work family and loved each one of them like brothers and sisters.
Joey was a long-time lover of drag racing, honoring his uncle Joe Boggs's World Champion memory by traveling to events displaying the original Hundley and Boggs tribute 'cacklecar' in addition to a replica of the 1969 full-bodied Hundley and Boggs dragster.
Joey was happiest, most relaxed, and at peace when riding around the family farm or mowing grass for hours at a time.
Joey is survived by his true love, soulmate, and adoring wife Jessica Halstead (Corker), his loving and doting mother, Karen Halstead Burrows, whom he lovingly referred to as "the Queen", his stepfather, Weldon Burrows, whom Joey loved dearly considered a 2nd father, his best friend and fiercely loyal brother Travis Halstead and loving wife, Kristin, whom Joey loved like a true sister.
