Karen Hannah Obituary

KAREN LYNN HANNAH of Given, West Virginia, age 70, beloved wife, sister and cousin, died unexpectedly on September 13, 2025. Karen was born November 24, 1954, to the late Betty Lee Hannah and Norman Hannah, in Charleston, West Virginia. Karen's younger sister Debbie (Sami Mardini) passed away recently in November 2024.
Karen graduated from South Charleston High School in 1973 and from Marshall University in 1976, receiving her Master's degree in 1985 from Marshall University as well.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, John Wharton; her sister Judy Hannah (Bill Borden); as well as several close cousins; including Shirley Quattro, Laurie Riner, Patricia Skula, Paulette Ross, Norman Robertson, Lisa Robertson, Scott Robertson and Craig Robertson.
She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes, desserts and other dishes for family and friends. She loved animals and welcomed many dogs and cats to her family over the years. Karen believed strongly in women's rights as well as kindness, respect and consideration for people everywhere, with no exceptions.
Karen briefly attended law school and started her career as a statistician and ultimately took advanced studies as an epidemiologist with West Virginia Medical Institute. Karen also volunteered for several charities and served on many boards around the Kanawha Valley.
We will have a celebration of life to honor Karen and her memories on October 25, 2025 at Saint Margaret Mary's Parish Hall in Parkersburg, WV. The celebration will start at 2 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made in Karen's name to Little Victories Animal Rescue.
