Karen Proctor Obituary

devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 65, of Belle, passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer on June 6, 2024.

Karen was a graduate of DuPont High School and retired from Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association where she dedicated her life in caring for animals.

Not only did she have a love for animals, she had a love for the beach. She enjoyed listening to the sounds of the ocean with her feet in the sand and a book in her hand. Making memories with her family was important, whether it was a beach vacation, or a weekend trip to Virginia to visit her nieces. Karen loved dinner nights at Mexican and Chinese. She enjoyed yard sales and thrift stores, even on vacation she loved to find a good Goodwill.

She will be remembered by her grandchildren for sleepovers, cereal cups and her famous ham and cheese sandwiches. And by her former coworkers and friends, she will be remembered for all the love and compassion she gave to help any animal. She was an advocate for the fur babies who couldn't speak for themselves.

We will never forget her famous quotes:

When asking to go to dinner, come get me, "I'm a rider, not a driver."

When playing dice, "she took 200"

When fighting cancer, "Team Karen- in it to win it" and God's got me"

God has you momma and you have the best seat in the house, to watch over us.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Mary Moore; sister, Benadine Bess; daughter-in-law, Christina Cobern and great grand-daughter, Ceciliya Kirk.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 46 years, Clarence; children, Randell (Madolyn Williamson) Proctor, Terri (John Buckley) Proctor and Ruth Ann (Danny Buckley) Slack; grandchildren, Alexus (Will) Weese, Destinee Kirk, Austin (Brooke) Kirk, Steven (Cierra) Slack, Kaitlyn (Damion) Roe, Dylan (Destiny) Slack, Johnathan Proctor, Christian Buckley, Whittney Proctor, Josh Slack, Hannah Morrison, Breanna Buckley, Ethan Slack, and Sarah Williamson; 19 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, and one on the way; brother, Carl Cyrus; sisters, Sharon Moore, Nancy Davy and Coleen Sizemore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and fur babies.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the CAMC Cancer Center, especially, Dr Soley and CAMC Cardiology, Dr Anderson and Dr Gharib.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13th at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle, with her nephew, Mr. Scott Proctor officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Thursday. Karen's final cremation wishes will be honored following the service and a private burial will take place at a later date.
