Karen Strickland Obituary

KAREN EDWINA PATRICK STRICKLAND went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, after a long illness, with her children by her side.
Edwina was born on February 7, 1948 in Charleston, WV to the late Walter Boyd "Jack" Patrick and Helen Kathryn (Vinson) Patrick Hicks.
Edwina was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Ronald Evans Strickland; brothers Wallace Patrick, Austin Patrick; and in-laws W.E "Bud" and Mary Irene (Shamblin) Strickland.
Edwina is survived by her children; Patrick "PW" (Tina) Strickland, Gabrielle "Gabi" (Gary) Walker, and Alison (David) Stout; grandchildren; P. Evan "Bud" (Jodee) Strickland, L. Connor Strickland, Ashton, Paelin, and Lowenn Walker, Jenna and Jessa Stout. Great grandchild Jackson Evans Strickland; sister: Wanda "Jackie" (Jim) Steele; brothers: Jerry Patrick, and Mark (Allison) Patrick; and special cousin in-law, Sharon Gump.
She was a 1966 Graduate of DuPont High School and thoroughly enjoyed all the reunions, dinners, and get-togethers with her classmates. She also enjoyed all the reunions and class dinners with Ronnie's classmates from Herbert Hoover High School Class of 1966.
She was a lifelong Christian and was saved as a child at Spring Fork Missionary Baptist Church. Edwina spent years ministering as a Children's Sunday School Teacher, AWANA leader, Nursery, Upward Basketball, and VBS worker. Edwina was very passionate about a church library and headed that ministry for several years at Elkview Baptist Church. Later in life, Edwina and Ronnie were members of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Edwina loved listening to preachers and studying the Bible. She had read the Bible from cover to cover many, many times. Edwina's favorite verse was Titus 2:13 and her favorite hymn was What a Day that Will Be. Before marrying Ronnie on November 25,1967, Edwina worked at Black Rock Paving Co. and C&P Telephone. After spending over 30 years as a dedicated homemaker and mother, Edwina went to work for The State of West Virginia, when Ronnie retired. She held several Administrative Assistant positions in different departments, retiring in 2010. Edwina was always an avid "DIY" master, home renovator, and furniture refinisher. She enjoyed genealogy research and had an extensive library on both her family and Ronnie's.
As per her wishes, Edwina will be cremated and laid to rest next to Ronnie in Koontz Cemetery, Clendenin, WV.
A private graveside service will be held with Rev. Gary L. Walker officiating.
The family would like to thank CAMC's CPICU Staff, especially Nurses Madilyn and Pam and Dr. Kevin Eggleston, MD for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Gideon's International PO Box 2723 Charleston, WV 25330.

Dear P.W, Gabi, and Allison,
I am so sorry about the passing of your mother. She and your Daddy were really two fine people. As long as they lived on Kirby Street, I never had to worry about Mom. Even after they moved to Clendenin, your Daddy still looked after Mary. She thought of them as "her kids", since your Mom was only three weeks older than me.
Well, I'll close for now, but I'd like to stay in touch with you all. My phone number is 304-756-3636, and my Email is [email protected]. Please call or Email me anytime if you'd like.
Thinking of you,
Mimi's Sue

Edwina was the best friend I ever had. My life has definitely changed when she passed. Her three kids were her life and she loved them more than they knew. All of her grandchildren, she was so proud of and she and Ronnie loved them so much. Edwina was a very smart person and she gave the best advice to those who needed it. I worked 34 years for the State and I never met anyone as smart and could figure out how best to reach goals and succeed to provide wisdom to make the job better.

I worked with Edwina at the PSC several years ago. She was a hard worker and a good friend. We had lost touch with each other the past couple of years, but I have good memories.
I know you will miss her dearly because she was a good mom and grandmother. Hold onto the memories...
