Lana Hammond Obituary

LANA WRAY HAMMOND was born September 4, 1953, and passed away surrounded by family on September 29, 2025, after her battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Jewell Wray, her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ron Rowley, and her nephew, Kent Rowley.
Lana is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Joe Hammond, her two children, Kari and Travis (Erica), and her two grandchildren, Brantley and Meadow. She also leaves behind her brother, Roger (Susan) Wray, along with the Hammond family, other nieces and nephews, her Uncle Barry (Dorinda) Wray, and lastly the "Chandler Gang Family".
Lana worked as an aide at Chandler Academy, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid cook and spent lots of time preparing meals for her close and extended families. Cooking was her way of showing affection. Family and friends will miss her dearly.
Celebration of Lana's life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 1 until time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be sent to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses at CAMC Memorial and everyone from Hospice, especially the caregivers who provided such exceptional care.
Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.tylermountainfuneralhome.com

Yesterday

Lana was our beautiful, sweet first cousin. There were ten of us, all descendants of Lelia & Frank Vaughn of Garden City, VA. We lost Linda in 2018 and now we have lost Lana.
Our mothers, Margaret, Pauline, Dulcie and Jewel, were always very close sisters. As a result all our families spent a lot of time together through the years. There were many music parties, gatherings at the holidays and summer reunions. Food was always abundant and delicious. All our mothers were wonderful cooks.
We are posting some photos of one of these gatherings. It was a beautiful December day in Charlottesville, Va. The year was 1995. Our cousin Sandy was our host. You can tell by our smiles that we were having lots of fun.
The memories of special times spent together helps us to never forget how precious those moments are.
Rest in peace sweet Lana. We loved you and will never forget your beautiful smile.
We send our love, thoughts and prayers to Joe, Kari, Travis, Erica, Brantley and Meadow.
Roger, we love you and your family dearly. We are thinking of you, Susan, Megan and Kyle,
Love always, Donna, Rick, Pat, Fredia, Susan, Sandy and Tim
