RAYMOND CLAUDE SPERRY, 83, of Tornado, formerly of Big Chimney, passed away on September 11, 2025, in the arms of his wife. Raymond was born on December 14, 1941, to Foster Sperry, Jr. and Jennie Shirlene Bowling Sperry in Charleston, WV.
After marrying the girl next door in 1966, Raymond raised four children who knew from an early age how special their dad was and how lucky they were. His commitment to his family was steadfast. The greatest gifts he gave to his children were the freedom to explore what the world had to offer and the knowledge they were loved unconditionally. The greatest gift he gave to the love of his life was more than 60 years of complete and total adoration.
Raymond graduated from Elkview High School in 1961. He served in the US Air Force for four years and worked for C&P Telephone Company/Bell Atlantic/Verizon for 36 years. Bored with retirement after leaving the phone company, he worked at Lowe's for another 20 years. He was not one for sitting still.
Raymond was a gentle, humble man and his devotion to his faith was unwavering. He lived God's principles every day of his life and enjoyed many friendships with like-minded individuals.
Raymond was proceeded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda Hughart Sperry; his daughters Laura Barno (Chris) and Samanatha Eagle (Terry Taylor) both of Charleston; his sons Christopher (Marcy) of Brooklyn, NY and Jason of Charleston; four grandchildren Nicholas Gibson, David Spears, Alyssa Lovejoy (Eric) and Ivy (Joey) Melton; one great grandchild, Gianni Melton; three step great grandchildren Cameron, Mila and Ava Melton; his brother, Foster Eugene Sperry and his niece Georgia Sperry, both of Delphos, Ohio.
The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at CAMC's surgical trauma intensive care unit, especially Trisha, Ally, Jody, Ryan, Mike and Tristan, for their tireless and gentle treatment. A special thank you to Rebecca Andrews.
The members of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, where Raymond served his creator, provided Raymond and his family with guidance and support for which they are grateful.
Raymond will be laid to rest with his father-in-law, Billy Joe Hughart, and mother-in-law, Joann Hughart, at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Big Chimney following a private graveside service.
