Regina Kaye "Jeannie" Canterbury

Regina Kaye "Jeannie" Canterbury, Regina Kaye "Jeannie" Canterbury, 76, of Clendenin, WV, passed away peacefully at her home on October 10,

2025.

Jeannie graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in 1967, where she met her sweetheart, Lewis Stephen

Canterbury. They wed that same year and were married for over 50 years, until Steve's death in 2020.

She was a homemaker for many years and then went to work for Kanawha County Schools in the early 1990's,

first as a cook and ultimately as a kindergarten aide, which she thoroughly enjoyed for about 10 years.

Born on July 28, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Ray Layne and Juanita Branch Wiblin Layne of

Quick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Steve Canterbury; brother, Timmy Layne; sister, Vicki

Hunter; and her beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Peanut, or as she affectionately referred to him, "Little Boy".

Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Beth (Allen) Whitman of Winfield; sons, Stephen (Missi) Canterbury of

Wellsburg; Michael Canterbury of Clendenin; sister, Carolyn Garrett, of Scott Depot; and family friend and

caregiver, Retha Taylor, of Bickmore. She was Mimi to grandchildren Evan and Allie Whitman; Emily and

Jessica Canterbury; and Ethan Canterbury, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you to her Hospice Team, RN, Gina Huffman; CNA, Mary Canfield; Pastor Pete Thompson;

and Social Worker, Krystia Thornton, for the amazing and wonderful care of Jeannie and their kindness, support

and compassion.

Jeannie's wishes were to be cremated and no services be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hubbard Hospice House, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W. Charleston,

WV 25387 or a local animal shelter or rescue of your choice.
