Robert Wheatcraft Obituary

Robert Joseph "Joe" Wheatcraft, 84, cherished by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024.

He was born at home in Sissonville, West Virginia on December 27, 1939 to Robert Clayton and Nellie Hunt Wheatcraft. After graduating from Sissonville High School in 1959, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve during the early 1960s. He worked hard throughout his life to support his family, a value he upheld with integrity and humility.

Joe was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, a warm fire on a cold night, visits with family and friends, and the freedom to roam out-of-doors in all seasons, but especially during the fall, a time when he enjoyed deer hunting with friends and watching college football. He had a generous spirit, sharing what he had to help those in need. His absence will be deeply felt.

Joe is preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Wheatcraft, and sister, Phyllis Painter. He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Wendy Wheatcraft of Warrenton, Virginia; his son, Patrick Wheatcraft, of Sissonville, West Virginia; his sister and brother-in-law, Millie and Robert Lynn, of Richmond, Virginia; and his sister, Janet Wheatcraft, of Manassas, Virginia.

In remembrance of Joe's life, the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, 6837 Sissonville Drive, Sissonville.
