S. Mathews Obituary


DR. S. GLENN MATHEWS, 88, of Robbins, died Monday, July 29, 2024 at his residence, at the age of 32,379 days.
Funeral Services, 2 p.m., Monday, August 5, 2024, at Beulah Baptist Church, Bennett, NC. Officiating, Dr. Neal Jackson, Dr. Norris Belcher, Rev. Tony Thomas, Dr. Gary Drake. Burial, Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur NC.
Glenn was born on December 5, 1935 in West Virginia and married the love of his life, Fleta Irene Williams, on July 26, 1958, and together, they began building a family and a ministry.
Glenn was saved at the early age of eleven and began preaching the gospel at seventeen. He was always learning and furthering his education, receiving his Bachelor's from Tennessee Temple University, a Master's Degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary, and his Doctorate of Divinity from Ambassador Baptist College. His greatest desire was to see others come to know Jesus Christ. He pastored in both West Virginia and Texas and they spent many months on the mission field in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and Australia. Glenn led more than thirty Bible Study Tours in Israel and the Middle East between 1976 and 2019. Glenn had the privilege and honor of sharing the Gospel on more than 3,000 Sundays on Broadcast Radio in Charleston, WV, North Carolina and the Caribbean area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ralph Mathews and Flora Blanche Milam Mathews, as well as his siblings, Dickie Mathews and Nancy Kaye Hamrick.
Survivors: wife of 66 years, Fleta Irene Mathews, daughters, Keta Joy Johnson and husband, Robert, of Olney, MD, and Kristi Griner and husband Frank, of Alexandria, VA; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
Visitation, 1 to 1:45 p.m., Monday, Beulah Baptist Church, Bennett. There will also be a reception for friends and family following the service in the church fellowship hall.
