Virgil Parsons Obituary

VIRGIL EDWARD PARSONS, 84, of Newton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 8, 2025, just 20 days after the passing of his beloved wife.
He was born April 4, 1941, at Sissonville, the son of the late Squire Enos and Maysel Josephine McCune Parsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, June Elizabeth Parsons; brother, Squire E. Parsons, Jr.
Virgil was an active member of Newton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a trustee for many years. He worked for C&P Telephone Company for 33 years. After his retirement in 1996, he started West Virginia's first Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) telephone company which would become Fibernet.
He was an Army veteran and a member of North Charleston Camp Gideon's International.
His greatest joy, however, came from singing gospel music. He sang with the Calvarymen from 1970-1979 and then with the Brighterside quartet from 1979-present. He enjoyed singing more than anything in the world. He was a witness to everyone he met of his Savior; even to the doctors and nurses during his last days at the hospital.
Survivors include his daughter, Sarah (Darius) Walker; brother, Tom (Cynthia) Parsons; sister, Carolyn (Ron) Fisher; grandchildren, Bailey (Kailee), Adah, Selah, and Micah Walker.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 15 at Newton Baptist Church, Newton, with Rev. Darius Walker and Rev. Ronald Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Military Honors will be accorded by the W.VA. Army National Guard Honor Guard.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214

Virgil never missed an opportunity to witness. I worked at the phone company when he was there. I remember his gentle way of reminding me that the Lord is number one (not his words..he was much more eloquent than I could ever be). He was a true servant of the Lord and because of that, he made an impression on many. May he rest in peace in his eternal home with God.

This man was a Christians Christian he stood for the Lord whom he dearly loved. We have lost 2 Brothers In Christ Squire E Parsons famous gospel singers that had that singing talent place in them at birth. Virgil lost his wife just three weeks ago June was a wonderful lady.

My whole family got to know Bro Virgil many years ago while he was singing with the Brighterside Quartet. Got to have them many times at my church. Bro Virgil was a special man and a wonderful tenor singer. He was an inspiration to me and my family. Always loved hearing him sing LOOK ON THE BRIGHTERSIDE!!! My kids loved to hear him on his endings. Also loved to hear him sing GLORY ROAD!!! He sang a part that said I can almost see the lights of home!!! Well right now he can see the lights of home and all the beauty of Heaven!!! So glad we got to know you Bro Virgil and we could call you our friend. It's just goodbye for now!!! Joy comes in the morning and what a reunion it will be!!! Thank you Bro Virgil for all the memories that we will hold dearly until we see you again!!! See you in the morning!!! We are praying for you Bro Tom Parsons and family!!!

He loved his family so much. He was always checking on us; that not only included Sarah & family, but brothers , sister, nieces & nephews and their children as well. He was also so protective of Mom & Dad and their legacy. We will miss him, but are comforted to know he is whole physically & spiritually.
