Taylor Funeral Home - Spencer Obituary

Virgil Edward Parsons, 84, of Newton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 8, 2025, just 20 days after the passing of his beloved wife.

He was born April 4, 1941, at Sissonville, the son of the late Squire Enos and Maysel Josephine McCune Parsons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, June Elizabeth Parsons; brother, Squire E. Parsons, Jr.

Virgil was an active member of Newton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a trustee for many years. He worked for C&P Telephone Company for 33 years. After his retirement in 1996, he started West Virginia’s first Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) telephone company which would become Fibernet.

He was an Army veteran and a member of North Charleston Camp Gideon’s International.

His greatest joy, however, came from singing gospel music. He sang with the Calvarymen from 1970-1979 and then with the Brighterside quartet from 1979-present. He enjoyed singing more than anything in the world. He was a witness to everyone he met of his Savior; even to the doctors and nurses during his last days at the hospital.

Survivors include his daughter, Sarah (Darius) Walker; brother, Tom (Cynthia) Parsons; sister, Carolyn (Ron) Fisher; grandchildren, Bailey (Kailee), Adah, Selah, and Micah Walker.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 15 at Newton Baptist Church, Newton, with Rev. Darius Walker and Rev. Ronald Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Military Honors will be accorded by the W.VA. Army National Guard Honor Guard.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214

Not sure what to say?

What a great homecoming in Heaven

Virgil was a God fearing man, who helped so many people in his lifetime, whether it be personal or spreading the seed of our Lord and Savior.Friendly, caring or serious, he was a Great friend, The memories I have with him and June will be forever in my heart. R.I.P Virgil , I Love and Miss you. God bless his Daughter Sarah, Darius, Grandchildren, siblings and all his family in this time of sorrow. My Deepest Sympathies.

We are so sorry for your loss. You are a family of great people and it is devastating to lose them even though they have been blessed with a long life. May you find comfort in knowing how loved your family is through the difficult times ahead. Love, Mark and Doris Irwin, Proctorville, OH

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Thoughts and prayers Mr Parsons was a great singer he sung from his heart he was so sweet from Clifford & Barbara Hudson

Virgil never missed an opportunity to witness. I worked at the phone company when he was there. I remember his gentle way of reminding me that the Lord is number one (not his words..he was much more eloquent than I could ever be). He was a true servant of the Lord and because of that, he made an impression on many. May he rest in peace in his eternal home with God.

This man was a Christians Christian he stood for the Lord whom he dearly loved. We have lost 2 Brothers In Christ Squire E Parsons famous gospel singers that had that singing talent place in them at birth. Virgil lost his wife just three weeks ago June was a wonderful lady.

I loved to hear him sing. His brother, Squire, was a very loved classmate. Now they will be together again.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. I am so blessed to have you as my other Pawpaw. I miss and love you so much. I promise to love and care for Bailey. Thank you for everything over the last 6 years. Until we meet again. ❤
