William Dodd Obituary

WILLIAM EDWARD "EDDIE" DODD, 76, of Charleston, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025 in hospice care following a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Fairmont, WV, to Lawrence and Mary Dodd, Eddie lived a quiet and difficult life shaped by severe, undiagnosed autism.
Though he never married or held a job, Eddie had an incredible memory and a lifelong passion for cars especially early models from the dawn of the automobile. He loved 1960's and 1970's pop culture, including The Munsters, Dark Shadows, and The Monkees.
Eddie was particularly fond of holidays, with St. Patrick's Day being his favorite. He had a fascination with classic movie monsters like Dracula and the Wolfman. In the final months of his life, as his body slowed, his mind seemed to calm as well allowing him to communicate more clearly than ever before. For the first time, his family was able to truly hear him, connect with him, and appreciate the depth of his knowledge and memory.
He is survived by his brother, Clifford Allen Dodd, who cared for him faithfully after their mother's passing.
Eddie endured much in life, but he found peace in the end and he was deeply loved.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please, show kindness to someone living with unseen challenges. Eddie would appreciate that.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
