Billy Smith Obituary

Billy Joe Smith, age 86, of Forest, Virginia, and formerly of Marion, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025. He was born on April 9, 1939, to the late Ora Lee Davis Smith and Edgar C. Smith. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Gene Smith, Buck Smith, Lucille Brown, and Opal Thomas. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanette Smith, and his loving children: Betsy Hairston and Tony Smith, both of Roanoke, Virginia; and Susan VanHoy Boyd and her husband, David, of Forest, Virginia. Joe was a contractor who took great pride in his craft. He was always quick to lend a hand or share his expertise. Even after retirement, he kept busy with projects-building furniture, helping with upgrades, or crafting something special for a family member. Above all, Joe loved his family. He was a proud grandfather to Andre' Hairston Jr. (Micheline), Aysha Hairston, Travis Smith (Jess), Ashley Myers (Trey), Jordan Ward (Taylor), Hunter Boyd, and Taylor Boyd. He was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Many nieces and nephews also carry cherished memories of time spent with him. Joe found happiness in life's simple pleasures: hunting with family and friends, working in his reloading room, restoring his '39 Ford, and catching up with his breakfast buddies. He never missed the chance to share a good story or joke-usually followed by his grin and laugh. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Centra Hospice of Lynchburg for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Sabrina, Angie, Jessica, Nisha, and Mel for your unwavering support and kindness during this time. Your care meant more than words can express. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Mike Humfleet officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1-2PM prior to services. Interment will be in Middle Fork Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Tony,
I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I remember the good times on the job that we had, especially the job at Christiansburg. (The ride up was the funniest part). I pray that you and the family will find peace and comfort in the lord, peace that only he can provide.
Love you brother !!
