Clarence Hughes Obituary

Mr. Clarence Hughes, Jr., age 84, of Caretta, West Virginia, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, in a Roanoke hospital following an extended illness. Clarence was born in War, West Virginia, on April 24, 1941, and was the son of the late Clarence Hughes, Sr., and Fannie Dunford Hughes. He had worked for many years in the coal mines to support his family and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Fannie Altizer, Teresa Click; siblings, Dicie Marie Hughes Bowman, Mae Hughes, Birdie Mae Hughes Sparks, Rosie Belle Hughes Perkins, Frances Elizabeth Hughes, Franklin D. Hughes, and Clyde Hughes. His children survive him: Mary McCoy of Blacksburg, VA Linda Duff of Bluefield, VA Lisa Hughes of Caretta, WV Joshua Hughes of Caretta, WV Brother, Emmett Perkins Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. The funeral for Clarence Hughes Jr., will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Yukon Pentecostal Church in Yukon, West Virginia, with Pastor Lacy Griffith officiating. In upholding Clarence's wishes to be cremated, there will be no burial. Friends and family are invited to call at the church from noon on Thursday until the time of the service.
