Clifford Williams Obituary
Clifford Ray Williams was born and raised in the quiet hollers of rural West Virginia. From his Appalachian beginnings, he developed an enduring love for the land and its wildlife. More than just his home, the mountains shaped his spirit and were a source of great solace and joy throughout his life.
A decorated combat veteran, Cliff served his country for over twenty years in the United States Army. He completed multiple tours of duty in Vietnam and retired with distinction at the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military career, he began another two decades of service with the Virginia Employment Commission, where he found purpose in counseling fellow veterans and helping them transition to civilian careers.
Cliff was a man of quiet reflection and curiosity. He was an avid reader and a lifelong journaler. He also found joy in the simple pleasures of cooking, tending his garden, birdwatching, and spending time with his grandchildren and his beloved dogs. Central to his life was the enduring love he shared with his wife, Monika, throughout their fifty-year marriage.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Sr. and Clara Williams, and siblings Matthew, Harvey Jr., Kathy, and Christine Williams. He is survived by his loving wife, Monika Williams; his sons, Christopher and Harvey Williams; stepson, Johannes "Hanno" Weigand; and his daughters-in-law, Miranda Williams, Sarah Burki, and Ekaterina Zuevskaya. His legacy continues through his four cherished grandchildren, Tristan, Noah, Ellie Williams, and Alex Weigand.
In his seventy-six years, Cliff lived a life defined by genuine humility, hard work, humble service, and a deep love for his family, his country, and the rural mountains of Appalachia that he called home.
