Doris Bailey Obituary
Doris J Bailey, 86, of Princeton, WV formerly of Bull Creek, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at her residence.
Doris was born November 10, 1938 in Paynesville, WV a daughter of the late Ted and Grace Davis Justice. Doris was the granddaughter of the late William and Martha Ann Lester Davis who raised her from birth. Doris graduated from Iaeger High School in 1957 and began a 28-year teaching career, as she worked on her degree in Education from Concord College. Doris received her degree in 1967; she taught in a couple of two room schools on Bull Creek (Allen and McKinley) until closed. Doris then taught at Panther Elementary and later at Iaeger Elementary where she retired. Doris loved teaching in the two room schools and the closeness with the children.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, granddaughter, sister and friend to all She had a humble spirit and a servant's heart to all, both in her community and church. Doris was a proud member of Mt Zion Old Regular Baptist Church on Bull Creek, being baptized in 1973. Doris loved to cook, garden, can and sew. She made hair bonnets to wear which later became her signature. Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff all referred to her as the bonnet lady.
In addition to her parents and grandparents Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 54 ½ years, Theodore Gennings Bailey in 2015.
Survivors left to mourn her passing include her daughters, Diane Taylor and husband JB and Robin Caskey and husband Steve all of Princeton; one grandson, Colton Caskey of Princeton; her half-sister, Sue Hurley of Panther, WV; and a special friend and caregiver, Mary Ann Drake of Northfork, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 1 o'clock with Elder Danny Hurley, Elder Fred Bailey, Elder Dallas Dotson, Elder Gary Estep, and Elder David Lester officiating at the Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist Church at Mohawk, WV. Burial will follow in the Bailey Cemetery Right Fork, Mohawk, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family at the Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist Church at Mohawk Friday evening, September 5, 2025 after 6 p.m. Evening services will be held at 7 o'clock.
