Sarah Shires Obituary
Sarah Elizabeth Booth Shires of Peterstown, WV slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Sarah fought the good fight, finished her race and kept the faith. Born May 1, 1946, to Jasper Owen (Buster) and Delcie Fraley Booth (Lowe) in Greenville, WV. She was a 1964 graduate of Peterstown High School, serving as president of the Future Homemakers of America chapter. Sarah was a strong and courageous lady, a true fighter in life as she battled breast cancer for the past 38 years, never giving up while raising her four children on a farm. Following in her stepdad's footsteps, she drove a school bus for Monroe County Schools for more than 32 years and completed the Adult carpentry class at the Monroe County Technical Center. Sarah loved the Lord, having an early start in the Spruce Run Church of the Brethren before becoming a faithful and active member of the Lindside United Methodist Church (now known as the Lindside Family Life Church) since her early teens, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, teaching the Adult and Seekers Sunday school classes, an active member of the United Methodist Women and assisting with the Food Pantry. Sarah was a former member of the Rock Camp/Wikle Ruritan Club, raising funds for the Lights for Lindside, and supporting her community anytime there was a need. She enjoyed gardening, farming, crafting, card making, bird watching, especially her hummingbirds, and cooking for her family who were regularly treated with cookies, zucchini bread, cakes in a jar, strawberry-rhubarb freezer jam and red pepper jelly, to name a few. Sarah will be fondly remembered as "The Cookie Lady" by all who loved and adored her.
