Thomas Gonzales Obituary

Thomas Gonzales Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, stepfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Pearisburg, Virginia, at the age of 58. Born on October 10, 1967, in Victoria, Texas, Thomas was known for his infectious humor and generous spirit, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. Thomas was the beloved husband of Benita Lucas Gonzales and a devoted father to his children, Joshua Brown and Joanna Gonzales. His role as a stepfather was equally cherished, guiding and loving James Lucas (Sierra), and Chasity Lucas (Angie Ruiz). Thomas's playful and loving nature shone brightly as a grandfather to his grandchildren, Jayla Solis, Jase Brown, Jaxxon Brown, and step-grandchildren, Jayceon Lucas, Julian Lucas, Davyon Lucas, and Zeke Price. Thomas is survived by his mother-in-law, Juanita Lucas, and his sisters, Erica Gonzales and Gloria Chavez, married to Ernest. Each family member will hold dear the memory of his kind heart and jovial nature. He was welcomed alongside his Heavenly Father by his parents, Thomas Gonzales Sr. and Margarita Morales, his sister, Olga Gonzales Cavazos, and his niece, Nina Cavazos, who preceded him in death. Thomas built a life of service and dedication as a machine operator at Dart Container, where his colleagues respected him for his work ethic and camaraderie. His involvement in the community through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints New River Valley Stake Center in Pembroke, Virginia, was a testament to his faith and desire to serve others. A man of many talents, Thomas was an enthusiastic handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand. His reputation as a jokester was well-earned, and he had a unique ability to uplift everyone around him with his wit. He relished his time shooting pool, a pastime that allowed him to forge many lasting friendships. Thomas also had a deep love for animals, especially of his precious dogs reflecting his compassionate and caring nature. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the New River Valley Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pembroke, Virginia. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 7:00 PM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Michael Long presiding.
