Timothy Dale Chewning Sr.

Timothy Dale Chewning, Sr., 72 of Shady Spring, passed away Friday July 4, 2025 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness. Born October 30, 1952 in Hinton, he was the son of the late William "Bill" and Mildred Adkins Chewning. Tim was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America, district 17. He loved the outdoors, especially riding his Harley over the scenic roads in West Virginia and the United States. Strong work ethic was the hallmark that defined Tim. He was always busy either officially in the mines or leisurely. He had a passion for woodworking and was also an avid swimmer as long as his health permitted. Tim loved the Lord and was of the Baptist faith. He will be missed by his entire family and friends. Besides his parents, Tim was preceded in death by five brothers (infants) and one sister, Connie Adkins. Left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 16 years, Donna Bruce Chewning; one son, T.J. Chewning, Jr. of Mt. Hope, WV; one daughter, Jennifer Marie Warick of Mt. Hope, WV; a step-daughter, Katherine Green of Chattanooga, TN; two brothers, Tom Chewning of Big Island, VA and Chris Yancey of Beckley, WV; one sister, Bonnie Sue Young of True, WV; two granddaughters, Jessica Underwood of Fayetteville, WV and Shali Warwick of Mt. Hope, WV; one great granddaughter, Everley Underwood also survives. Funeral services to celebrate Tim's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday July 10, 2025 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Bobby Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
