Thomas McCann Obituary

Thomas McCann 1941- 2025 Thomas (Tom) Wayne McCann, 83, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away on August 14, 2025, in Cheyenne at Davis Hospice Center. Tom was born November 18, 1941, in Cheyenne to John T. and Marjorie E. McCann and was the eldest of four sons. Tom was a loving Son, devoted Husband, amazing Father, and Brother. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1959. Following High School, he entered the United States Navy and served on the USS Henderson Destroyer as a Signalman stationed at the US Naval Station in San Diego California. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Tom married Donna Lee Lessenger on August 25, 1960, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne and would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this month.

After Tom's Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he went to work at Cook-McCann Concrete with his father, starting out as a concrete finisher. Tom became President after his father's passing and worked alongside his brother Ken until retirement. He retired in 2008 and spent his time on Woodworking, Project Management (for Dee) and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his treasured Jeep and his 1923 Roadster Hot Rod, he built himself. He also loved Car Shows and Bowling as did his mother.

Tom was a Cheyenne Frontier Days Volunteer for several years enjoying Chuck Wagon Judging and was also a member of The Frontier Lions Club.

Many summers were spent camping, boating, and water skiing at Guernsey and Glendo Reservoirs. with friends and family. He also enjoyed attending the Chugwater Chili Cook-Off for many years.

Tom was always a person you could count on, and he never hesitated to help anyone in need. He was a significant role model, mentor, and teacher. He instilled strong values and a strong work ethic in his children and grandchildren.

Tom's family was his greatest joy in life. He was truly the greatest man they've ever known and will be missed. He is survived by his wife Donna, three daughters- Robin (Dan) Casey, Dianna (Ted) Svitavsky, Melissa (Scott) Stoeckle, and one son, John (Brenda) McCann. He is also survived by his brothers and sister-in-law- Ken (Carolyn) McCann, Dennis (Deb) McCann, and Nancy McCann (wife of late Larry McCann). Tom is also survived by his grandchildren- Chandra (Jason) Stettner, Ashley Casey, Adrienne (Chris) Gibbs, Tyler Fleming, Danyelle (Matt) McLane and Joshua Stoeckle. Great-grandchildren- Addison, Harper, Holden, Morgan, Sawyer Paige, and Cooper and Logan. Tom was proceeded in death by his parents- John T. and Marjorie E. McCann, brother Larry McCann, and his granddaughter Kara Casey.

A celebration of life will be held on October 18, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at The Metropolitan in downtown Cheyenne. Cremation has taken place under the care of Schrader, Jacoby & Aragon Funeral Home in Cheyenne. His remains will lie near his Father and Mother at Lakeview Cemetery. A private graveside service will be held for his immediate family.

The family extends their sincere thanks to the excellent care and compassion that was provided to Tom: Dr. Harrison and his Nurse Holly, Dr. Knott, Carmen Petsch, CRMC Pulmonary Rehab Clinic, CRMC ED Staff, CRMC Surgical Staff, CRMC ARU Staff, Caregivers from Cornerstone and Eden Home Health Care. A special thank you to the staff at Davis Hospice Center for their kindness and support for our entire family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations to any of the following organizations: Davis Hospice Center (Cheyenne, WY), The Wild Animal Sanctuary (Keenesburg, CO), Cheyenne Animal Shelter (Cheyenne, WY), or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
