XENIA — Janice Vivian Mosby Jackson - wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, educator, minister, and friend - dedicated her life to her family, to the education of children, and to the spiritual needs of others through her daily visits with patients at Greene Memorial Hospital and residents at Greene Oaks Nursing Home. When her mother became ill, she realized that caregiving from a distance was not an option; therefore, she moved her to Xenia. The oldest child of Willie Mae and Calvin Mosby, Janice began this journey of life on September 27, 1944 in Oxford, Mississippi. On December14, 2018, she moved to the heavenly portion of her journey. She was educated in the Oxford School system, graduating from Central High School, and she earned abachelor's degree in elementary education from Rust College in Holly Springs, MS. At Rust, Janice was a member of the Acapella Choir; Student National Educational Association (SNEA); Social Science Club; and Petite Hall Student Advisory Group. She later earneda master's in education from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), with further studies at Payne Theological Seminary. Her career as an educatorincluded teaching at St. Mary's Catholic School, Holly Springs; Byers Elementary School, Sandflat, Mississippi; and Montgomery County and Dayton City schools, Dayton, Ohio. Janice's Christian foundation began at Cyprus Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church in Oxford, Mississippi. Her commitment continued as a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Holly Springs, Mississippi, Middle Run Baptist Church, Xenia, and Holy Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church. She served as Sunday school teacher, superintendent and a member of the missionary society. Following her ordination as a local elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2005, Bishop Robert Vaughn Webster, Presiding Prelate of the Third Episcopal District appointed her to Holy Trinity AME Church as a local elder. She was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Delta Omega Chapter, Clarksdale, Mississippi. Janice married Johnny W. Jackson, her college sweetheart, in 1965. Their family was complete with the birth of their three children: Javier Alaric, Jocelyn Kavonne, and Jonathan Carvell. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Johnny; daughter, Jocelyn; sons, Javier and Jonathan; brother, Dwight Anthony Mosby (Jean); five grandchildren: Jarrel, Jarrod, Marquis, Javier II, and Alexa Jade; three great-grandchildren: Zion, Ezra, and Oulla; nieces: Detra and Nicole; nephews: Dwight II and Keith; and a host of friends and family members. Service for Janice Jackson will be held on Saturday December 22, 2018 at Holy Trinity A.M.E Church 1230 Wilberforce-Clifton Rd. Wilberforce, Ohio. Visitation will be 11:00am with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, at 12noon until time of service which will be at 1:00pm with Rev. Dr. Ruth McCant Locke officating. Interment will follow at Heritage Hills Cemetery in Springboro, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to Porter-Qualls-Freeman Funeral Home.
