YADKINVILLE — Mr. Howard Frank Gentry, 86, of Dudley Street, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at his home. He was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Yadkin County to the late William Miles and Ollie Leona Pendry Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a farmer who enjoyed hiring lots of the local community kids to help work in his crops of tobacco. He was also the former co-owner and operator of Williams & Gentry Grocery Store and Meat Processing. During his years of working at the store, he loved all the friendships that were made, enjoyed making the sandwiches with extra meat and cheese, and was known for the fresh sausage he made for the community. He was a faithful member of Center United Methodist Church and attended as long as his health permitted. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Iva Helton, Ruth Mickles, Margaret Williams; and brothers, George Gentry and Lester Gentry. Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Wooten Gentry of the home; his children, Steve Gentry and wife, Sharon, of Lewisville, Sandra G. Overby and husband, Clay, of Yadkinville, David Gentry and wife, Melissa, of Yadkinville; grandchildren, Chad Gentry, Emma Gentry, Christopher Overby, Andrew Overby, Stuart Gentry, Jordan Gentry, Jackson Gentry; sisters, Bernice G. Norman, Wilma G. Casstevens; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Center United Methodist Church by Dr. Bonnie Harris and the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster. Burial will follow the service in Center Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Center United Methodist Church, 1849 Center Road, Boonville, NC 27055; or to Mountain Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of Yadkin Valley Community Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice, and to Jennifer Brown for all the loving care and support given to Mr. Gentry.
