Larry David Crews, 79, of Boonville, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, at the W. G. Hefner V.A. Hospital in Salisbury. He was born on Oct. 15, 1944, in Harmony to the late Roy and Eva Mae Crews. Larry graduated from West Yadkin High School before proudly serving in the US Navy from 1965-1971, where he trained at the U.S. Navy Submarine School in Saratoga Springs, NY. He dedicated his career to working as a Navy Machinist Mate and later with Chesapeake Corporation and Crews Ironworks. A man of faith, Larry was a member of Hunting Creek Friends. Known for his proud, loving, and caring personality, he was deeply family-oriented and always ready to lend a helping hand. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Crews; sons, Erik Crews (husband, Terry May) and Bryan Crews (wife, Laura Crews); sisters, Janice Schuyler, Judy Davis, Susan Macemore, and Missie Flannigan (wife, Barbara Turner); brother, Jeff Crews (wife, Ann Crews). He leaves behind eight nieces and nephews, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Steve Crews, and brother-in-law, Dickie Schuyler. Larry cherished his hobbies, which included cheering for Starmount High School football, riding his Harley, caring for his dogs, playing Santa at Christmas, and attending meetings with fellow blacksmiths. He was Commander of the Yadkin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10346 for 10 years as well as Honor Guard Captain. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A Celebration of Life Service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. David Shore officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 Memorial Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Larry's Memory to the Yadkin VFW Post 10346, c/o David Webb, Quartermaster, Price Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
