Carl Barfield Obituary

Mr. Carl Barfield, Jr., 87, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2025. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 18, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC. Burial will be Friday, September 19 at 1:00pm at Grandview Memorial Park, 620 South Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Born August 14, 1938, in Kershaw, SC, he was the youngest son of the late Carl Barfield, Sr. and Maggie Mae Mackey Barfield. He was preceded in death by his brother John "Buck" Barfield and his wife, Gloria; his sister, Dorothy Ann Barfield Rogers; and his sister, Doris Jean Barfield Baker, and her husband, Alton. Carl worked for 33 years in the White Department of Rock Hill Printing and Finishing in Rock Hill, SC. He later continued his career with Gill Manufacturing (also known as Woods Equipment) in Charlotte, NC. In addition, he served in both the South Carolina National Guard and the United States Army Reserve. Carl's love of God and his strong faith guided every part of his life. He served first as a deacon and later as an elder at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC, where he faithfully served for more than 40 years. He treasured being in the Lord's house, was devoted to worship and fellowship, and held perfect Sunday School attendance for an extraordinary 66 years. A man devoted to his community, Carl was a charter founding member of the Leslie Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years. Outside of work and church, Carl was a man of many passions. An avid fisherman, he especially loved crappie fishing, which brought him countless hours of joy. He was a master woodworker, admired for his skill and craftsmanship, and found great joy in creating wooden gifts that he gave generously to friends and family. He also loved tending his vegetable garden and sharing its bounty with those he loved. Carl is survived by his wife, Martha Faulkenberry Barfield of Rock Hill, SC; daughters Christine Barfield Gray (Jim) of Roanoke, VA, and Pam Barfield Hay of Gastonia, NC; his grandchildren Matthew Gray, Brad Hay (Janet), and Michael Hay; and great-grandson Preston Hay (Annie); and his niece Deborah Rogers Waldrop (Greg). He is also survived by Martha's children, Bill Faulkenberry (Sharon) and Janet Jenkins (Gene); grandchildren Amanda Cutter (Jay), Ashley Faulkenberry, Amber Seitz (Eli), Casey Seitz (Will), and Gracelyn Jenkins; and great-grandchildren Archer, Kai, Akida, and Bow.
