Harry William Thompson, Jr, aged 82, of Rock Hill, SC, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 at his home. Born on April 26, 1943 in Rock Hill, SC, he was the youngest son of Harry William "Bill" Thompson, Sr. and Elsie Lathene Rollins, both of Rock Hill, SC.
After graduating from Rock Hill High School, he enlisted in the US Army in 1965. During his service years, he was deployed to Korea from 1965-1967 and was honorably discharged in 1968. He attained the rank of SPC/E-4, serving as a Communications Specialist.
Following his service in the US Army, Harry entered into the workforce as a tire builder at General Tire. After many years of employment, he retired in the early 90's.
Harry enjoyed classic cars, watching sports and was a very avid Clemson Tigers and Atlanta Braves fan. His favorite place to eat was Cracker Barrel. He will especially be remembered for his love of music. As the owner and operator of Harry Thompson Sound Productions, he spent countless hours building a music collection for various stage events and productions, including local area gatherings, church events, sporting events and graduations, including Winthrop University and local school districts.
Harry is survived by his brother Gene Thompson of Annandale, Virginia, three sons, Billy Thompson (Angela) of Rock Hill, SC, David Thompson (Laurie) of Port Royal, SC and Kevin Thompson (Dawn) of Las Vegas, NV; Five grandchildren, Cole, Kennedy, Trevor, Trinity and Maddox. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry "Bill" Thompson, Sr. and Lathene Rollins Thompson.
The family would like to give special recognition to his caregiver Staci Ogburn for the many hours she spent letting him entertain her with his many stories and "jokes of the day", while providing him comfort and care as his in-home health nurse and Hospice Aide.
Harry was a member Woodland Methodist Church for many years.
Visitation is scheduled for September 2, 2025 beginning at 10 AM at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732, followed by a graveside service at 11 AM at Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732, with military rites rendered by the U.S. Army and American Legion.

Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Harry Thompson Jr.
