Richard LeGrady Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Francis LeGrady, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on October 5, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on December 28, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, Richard lived a life full of love, laughter, and service.
Richard was the cherished son of Stephen and Agnes LeGrady, who instilled in him values of hard work, respect, and kindness that he carried throughout his life. He proudly served four years in the United States Navy, where he saw much of the world while stationed on a supply ship, the decommissioned battleship SS Barney Dog. His military service was a testament to his dedication and commitment to his country.
After his time in the Navy, Richard embarked on a long and fulfilling career with the U.S. Postal Service, from which he eventually retired. His work ethic was admired by many, and he approached every task with a sense of purpose and integrity.
Richard had a zest for life that was infectious. He was a passionate fisherman and crabber, finding solace by the water and joy in the thrill of the catch. Music was another great love of his; he enjoyed playing guitar and was an avid fan of The Beatles. Richard's interests extended to film as well, with a special fondness for classic westerns, particularly those featuring John Wayne. Many people may not know that he even had a brief stint in stand-up comedy, showcasing his great sense of humor that endeared him to so many.
In addition to his many hobbies, Richard had a passion for collecting model trains, a hobby that brought him great joy and a sense of nostalgia. He cherished the moments spent with his family, sharing stories, laughter, and creating lasting memories.
Richard's devotion to his family was unwavering. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois LeGrady, who he treated as the best thing that ever happened to him. Their bond was a beautiful example of love and partnership. Richard is also survived by his daughter, Michelle OConner-Buffaloe (Mark), and his sons, Paul LeGrady (Zoe) and Matthew LeGrady (Janet). His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren: Phillip, James, Emily, Ashelynn, Elizabeth, Jude, Grey, Otto, Scarlett, and Ani.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kevin LeGrady, and his grandson Oskar LeGrady. These losses left an indelible mark on his heart, yet he continued to honor their memory through his love for family and his unwavering devotion.
A funeral service will be held in Richard's honor on October 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, located at 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The family will receive visitors on October 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the same location. Following the service, Richard will be laid to rest with military honors at Forest Hill Cemetery, 4290 Old York Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29731.

His respectful nature, great sense of humor, and good looks will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a doting grandfather who exemplified what it means to love selflessly and wholeheartedly. Rest in peace, Richard; you will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
