Sheila Parsons Burgess Obituary
Sheila Rae Parsons Burgess was peacefully called home on June 16th, 2025, surrounded by the love, comfort, and warmth of her family. At 61 years old, she left us with a heart full of love and a spirit that will forever inspire those who knew her. Sheila is deeply loved and cherished by her children, Meredith Burgess Haley and her husband Rhett, along with their two precious children, Rowan and Davis, who will forever hold their "Nana" close in their hearts. Her memory lives on in her son, Garrett Burgess, and his husband, Keegan Newton, whose lives she touched so profoundly. She will also be eternally loved by her devoted sister, Angela Parsons Gandee, her husband Jeffrey, and their children, Charlton Gandee (Chrissy) and Carly Fragale (Joseph). Sheila joins her beloved parents, Martha Abbott Parsons and Charles K. Parsons, in a glorious reunion beyond this life.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Sheila's joyful spirit was nurtured during her lively childhood on Gabe Creek. She called both Clendenin, West Virginia, and Rock Hill, South Carolina her home, where she created countless treasured memories and lifelong friendships. As a young girl, her athletic talents in basketball and volleyball taught her the meaning of teamwork and deepened her bond with her father, Charles.
Throughout her life, Sheila's kindness, compassion, and unwavering willingness to help others shined brightly. She dedicated herself to uplifting those facing life's greatest challenges, especially supporting individuals with cancer diagnoses, often putting others' needs before her own. Her love extended especially to her children and eventually to her grandchildren-listening to endless animal facts with Rowan and encouraging Davis to embrace life's joy in childhood.
Sheila chose to live a life filled with acts of kindness, service, and faith-reflecting the love Christ shows for us all. Her journey was marked by laughter, hope, acceptance, and prayer-reminding us that while we cannot always control life's hardships; but faith, love, and trust have the power to heal and renew.
We are eternally grateful for the compassionate care she received from the team at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute under Dr. Jubilee Brown, as well as the gentle strength offered by Wayne T. Patrick's Hospice House. Their presence provided Sheila with comfort and serenity at the closing of her earthly journey, leading her into the glorious arms of heaven.
Though words can never fully express our love and gratitude, we find peace in knowing that Sheila's beautiful soul now dances in eternal joy. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will forever live in our hearts, guiding us until we all meet again.
Two celebrations of life will be held for the family of friends in both West Virginia and South Carolina. Details for these events will be announced on a later date.
