Sherron Miller Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for the life she lived, we announce the passing of Sherron Cecelia (Sherrie) Miller on March 11, 2026.

Born on January 29, 1947, in Hickory, North Carolina, Sherrie was a beacon of love, kindness, and service throughout her 79 years. She was the beloved daughter of the late Lane Ellis Miller, Sr. and Edith Cloninger Miller, who nurtured her spirit and instilled in her the values that guided her generous life. She was also predeceased by her cherished sister, Judy Miller Childress, her nephew, Shawn Ellis Childress, her grandson, Andrew Travis, and her loyal canine companion of nearly 16 years, Rosie.

Sherrie's legacy of love and service continues through her surviving family members: her devoted brother, Lane Ellis "Rocky" Miller, Jr., and his wife, Loren; her beloved son, Brian Ashley Travis; and her treasured grandchildren, Joseph, Ava, and Jacob Khaled, who were the light of her life and the inspiration behind her favorite title, "Gran." Sherron is also survived by her niece, Julia Childress Khaled, and her husband, Ben; her nephew, Andy Smith, and his wife, Shannon; her special cousins, Glenda Bailey and Donna Buchanan; and countless friends who became family.

Raised in Claremont, North Carolina, Sherrie was a proud graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University. She spent many years in Hickory before moving to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to be closer to her grandchildren, whom she adored.

Sherrie's life was a testament to the joys of family and the power of community. She cherished taking her grandchildren to Camp Meetings and the Kool Park Pool, and she never hesitated to embark on their adventures, no matter how whimsical. Sherrie's summers were often spent at Balls Creek Campground, a beloved tradition she shared with everyone she met. Her spirit of generosity was boundless, as evidenced by her tireless volunteer work with the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, Samaritan's Purse, local food banks, Tunnel to Towers, and St. Jude's, among others.

Her heart was as expansive as her love for travel, which took her across many states and countries, broadening her horizons and deepening her compassion. A woman of deep faith, Sherrie was a longtime member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Claremont, NC, and more recently of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, SC. Her church communities were central to her life, offering her both solace and the opportunity to serve others.

In celebration of her remarkable life, a graveside service will be held on March 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem UMC Cemetery, located on Old Catawba Rd, Claremont, NC. As we gather to honor Sherrie, we remember her warmth, her laughter, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved.

Sherron Cecelia (Sherrie) Miller's life was a tapestry of love, service, and adventure. Her memory will forever inspire those who knew her to live with the same grace, generosity, and joy that she so effortlessly embodied. She will be dearly missed and eternally cherished.

I am so sorry to hear of Sherron's passing. I worked with her for several years at Northwestern Bank in Hickory, and we became good friends. I remember her love and devotion to her son, Brian. She was a very special, loving person. As often happens when we age, our lives took different directions. I wish we had been able to keep in touch. My love and prayers to her family. May God give you peace.
