Alvin Revell Obituary
York - Dr. Alvin William Revell, 85, entered into rest Thursday May 10, 2018 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Dr. Elizabeth Sheehan Revell for 18 years.
A family viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, at John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. 2114 West Market St. A viewing will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market St. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Keith Fair officiating. Burial will be in Chelten Hills Cemetery in Philadelphia.
Dr. Revell was born October 16, 1932 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Henry and Lillie (Holloman) Revell.
Dr. Revell is survived by his wife; children, Alvin W. Revell, Jr., Renee Revell Morris, Karrlah Revell Whyte, and Makaya Sheehan Revell (Kiangana Dialungana); grandchildren, Renah Morris Jones, Ian Morris, Aaron Morris, Christian Revell, George Revell, Na'Chelle Morris, Xavier Revell, Edward Whyte, Joy Whyte; great-grandson, Titus Morris. He was preceded in death by a sister and brothers, Gathan Revell, Mable Revell Harmon, and Horace Revell.
Dr. Revell was a pioneer in the community mental health movement. He led the establishment of the first five community mental health centers at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital. He also held many leadership positions in higher education, culminating with Director of Equal Educational Opportunity for the Department of Higher Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Dr. Revell maintained a private psychotherapy practice throughout his career, leaving behind many grateful patients.
Dr. Revell was the recipient of many awards, including Outstanding Service Recognition from the Hahnemann Community Mental Health/Mental Retardation Center and an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the Holy Eastern Orthodox Church of the United States. He also was recognized with an outstanding community service award from Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marie Mambu Makaya Foundation.

Alvin was one of those rare individuals to whom the expression "to know him is to love him" applies perfectly.
Alvin had many accomplishments and titles but to me his primary title was that of friend. . .friend to many. . .beloved by all who knew him.
My heartfelt sympathy to his dear wife, Elizabeth, and his wonderful adopted son, Makaya, and all his family and other loved ones.

I hardly knew Alvin, but did know how Elizabeth felt about him which is another way to know him. I am thinking of you Elizabeth, and Makaya, in this time of loss. I hope I can visit sometime during the summer to give you, and all the 4 legged creatures who live with you, hugs.
