Charles J. Nelo III

YORK Charles J. "Chip" Nelo III, 53, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at his home. He had been the husband of Diane M. (Rolka) Nelo, originally of Montdale. A visitation will be 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday at John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St. A memorial service will begin at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John McCloskey OFM Cap officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mr. Nelo was born April 4, 1959, in Baltimore, a son of the late Charles J., Jr., and Mary J. (Bitner) Nelo. He had been employed at PHH in Hunt Valley, Md., in fleet management and was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Dallastown. He was a gifted athlete and a 1977 graduate of York Suburban High School where he participated in football, track, volleyball, and baseball. Chip was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing, and camping, and he pursued these passions in places such as Colorado and Wyoming. Cooking was another passion of Chip's, and it was not uncommon for him to spend hours at a time preparing meals for a crowd. Chip had a great sense of humor and an engaging personality. He was always the life of the party and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Chip is survived by his children, Kathleen T. Nelo, Joseph M. Nelo, Julia E. Nelo, and Anthony J. Nelo, all of York; sisters, Dea M. Goodman and her husband George of Houston, Texas, and Julia N. Kite and her husband David of Lake Ridge, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diane Nelo at People's Bank to be used in the community and for the children.
