Clair W. Hoffman

NORTH YORK Clair W. Hoffman, 92, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 3:45 a.m., at York Hospit al. He was the husband of June L. (Algoe) Hoffman, with whom he observed their 58th wedding anniversary on December 24, 2007. He was born December 31, 1915, in York, the son of the late Emory and Irene (Becker) Hoffman. Clair was a retired watchmaker at Fluher's Jewelry Store. He maintained the clock on the old County Court House for many years and repaired the first parking meters in the city of York. He was a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Hoffman was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in North York for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Watchmaker's Institution. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Grace Miller of York and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Amy C. Schifrin officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to a favorite charity.
