David Rice Obituary

David Kenneth 'Kenny' Rice, 62, died at 8 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2003, at York Hospital. He was the companion of Linda J. Beaverson of York. Mr. Rice was born in York July 22, 1941, a son of the late Soloman L. and Sarah A. (Barton) Rice. He retired from the parts department of Caterpillar Inc. in 1998. Following his retirement, he worked for the City of York. He was a Vietnam Era veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a 1960 graduate of William Penn Senior High School; a life member and past commander of York American Legion Post No. 127; and a member of King Soloman Lodge No. 12 Free and Accepted Masons and Sandtrappers Golf Club. Besides his companion, he leaves two sons, Roman A. Sipe of Dover and Vidal A. Sipe of Hickory, N.C.; a daughter, Shadava K. Rice of Huntsville, Alabama; an adopted son by love, Andre Miller of York; six grandchildren, Roman Sipe Jr., Vidal Sipe Jr., Denzell Sipe, Seirra Sipe, Andre Miller Jr., Andrew Miller, Isaiah Sipe and Jaiden Sipe; a brother, Roman Rice of Los Angeles, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of Praise and Worship, 886 E. Prospect St., York, with the Rev. Thomas R. Counts Jr. and the Rev. Tony W. Counts Sr. officiating. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with graveside military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewing will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, is in charge of arrangements. Linda, you are such a wonderful person. You were always there by his side to help him whenever he needed you. Remember that you are a strong woman and God will get you through this difficult time.
