Dorothy Lindecamp Obituary

YORK Dorothy Davis Lindecamp, 95, a remarkable, vibrant, and accomplished woman, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013. She lived life with faith, love, compassion, humor, and adventure. She was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she founded and led the Stephen Ministry - a lay ministry program for her church. She also served as their first female lay leader. In more recent years, she practiced her faith with fellow residents at Normandie Ridge. She was married for 69 years to her late husband, Lewis C. Lindecamp. She was a devoted mother to her three daughters and families, Carol and Jack Skowronski of Mechanicsburg and Camp Hill, Lorraine and Bob Mansell of Alexandria, Va., and Gail and Russ Roberts of Indian Mills, N.J.; grandmother to Korinne and Ken Guza, Dr. Nathan and Nicole Roberts, Marinn Mansell, Esq., and Mark and Jenn Skowronski; and great-grandmother to Olivia and Jonathan Guza, and Riley and Emerson Roberts. She was born in Philadelphia, on February 6, 1918, to the late Samuel Purnal and Ethel (Howard) Davis and was predeceased by her younger brothers, Drs. Samuel P. and James H. Davis. Dottie was a 1935 graduate of York's William Penn High School. She attended West Chester University, then accepted a teaching position with the York City School District. She graduated from Millersville State College in 1956 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and in 1961 earned a Master's in Early Childhood Education from Pennsylvania State University. In her 33 years with the York City School District, she was a language arts coordinator and earlier taught kindergarten and served as a consultant for the Head Start Program. She also was Director of York Jr. College's Reading Institute, taught evening classes of English to the Foreign Born, conducted workshops and was a public speaker. She was an avid reader (founded book clubs and Bible studies) and writer (published articles on child rearing experiences for national publications) and culminated her lifelong passion for writing prose and poetry with the publication of her memoirs in "Verse Along the Way" in 2012. Dottie and her late husband traveled around the world three times. At age 90, she retired her snow skis. Another of her great joys were her beloved cats. The memorial service for Dottie will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Normandie Ridge, 1700 Normandie Drive, York, PA 17408. Pastor Paul Stambaugh will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Center for Spiritual Formation, 64 E. North St., Carlisle, PA 17013; or Reading is Fundamental, P.O. Box 33728, Washington, DC 20033. Miss Lindecamp was one of my favorite teachers at McKinley Elementary school! She always inspired us to do our best. May she rest in peace.

Dear Lorraine, Gail, and Carol,
My family joins me in sending our condolences. We feel so blessed Dottie and Lorraine could join the b-day party for our mom, Eunice Taylor, just one month ago. We were dazzled by your mother's fitness in every way and now feel so sad knowing a wonderful person has left this world. We rejoice in knowing your beloved mother is now in heaven, where she's probably organizing ski trips through the clouds, writing seminars, and book discussion groups!
Love, Marianne and All

Mrs. Lindecamp will be greatly missed at Asbury. My mother was a Stephen Minister with her. Your family is in my prayers.

My Dear Dottie,
How I will miss you and all the talks we had Mon thur Fri. How I use to brush the back of your hair every day and hand everything to you , for your hand, your chapstick, your face lotion. You always told me you loved how I washed your back and the I always babied you and left you sit on the bed and dressed you. But the best of all was the talks about Riely and Lorraine. Plus everyone else. We`d take walks around the building and I always called this one fountain hers. I will miss her a lot and our talks. She was one in a million and I loved her ,she was like my second mother but I was her caregiver. Love you Dottie

Having first met Dottie when I did a short substitute stint in York City Schools, I was reacquainted with her when we shared Child Study Club activities. She was such a delight and I know she will be greatly missed.
