Duane E. Gottsch

York - Duane Emil Gottsch, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 29, 2021 surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Mary M. (Pecorelli) Gottsch.

Born in Bennington, Nebraska on November 24, 1931, Mr. Gottsch was the son of the late Emil and Clara Gottsch. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Juneau. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and served as an usher. He retired from Thom McAn Shoes after 36 years of service.

A private funeral mass was held on February 5th with burial in Holy Saviour Cemetery with full military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements were entrusted to John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 902 Mount Rose Ave, York.

Mr. Gottsch is survived by four sons, Michael D. Gottsch of Upper Darby, Joseph M. Gottsch of York, Gregory E. Gottsch of Hanover and Duane A. Gottsch of Winterville, NC; three daughters, Michele M. Liddick of York, Janelle C. Wherley of Hanover and Felicia A. Matthews of Red Lion; 23 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County Food Bank, 254 West Princess Street, York, PA 17401.

To the Family: I will always remember your father, Duane. I worked for Thom McAn Shoes for 3 1/2 years at the York County Shopping Center & also, for a short time at the York Mall . He was a great man & taught me a lot about the retail business. I started working for him as a cashier and eventually became the 1st female shoe sales person, working for Thom McAn. I remember all of you "kids", because your mother, Mary, would bring you into the store. I saw you grow up from little on up !! With my most sincere sympathy & love........
