Eleanor H. Thompson

Eleanor H. Thompson, 78, died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Towson, Md., at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2006. She was the wife of Curtis V. "Dick" Thompson who died on February 13, 1989. Mrs. Thompson was born in Baltimore, Md., on May 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Marshall Thomas Heaps, Sr., and Helen Wells (Arthur) Heaps. She graduated from Slate Ridge High School in Cardiff, Maryland in 1945 and attended Wooster College in Wooster, Ohio. She later graduated with a B.A. in Business from Maryland College for Women in 1949. Mrs. Thompson was a private organ and piano instructor and served as the organist for Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church for 54 years. She was an integral part of the worship services at Slate Ridge and especially enjoyed playing for weddings and Chancel Choir concerts. Mrs. Thompson also held the offices of Elder and Deacon at the church. For over 10 years she worked as an instructional assistant for Harford County Public Schools, beginning in 1979. She was a 50 year member of Penn-Mary Chapter #72, Order of the Eastern Star, Cardiff where she served as the organist for 45 years and past Worthy Matron. She is survived by one son, David V. Thompson; two daughters, Linda M. Thompson and Marian T. Koegel, all of Delta; six grandchildren, Nicholaus V. Thompson of Delta, Jason D. Thompson, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Italy, Curtis C. Thompson of Delta, Jessica A. Koegel, Madelyn L. Koegel, W. Peter Koegel, all of Delta; and one brother, Marshall T. Heaps, Jr., of Street, Md. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut St., Cardiff, MD 21160. Her pastor, the Rev. John W. Craft and her cousin, the Rev. Henry W. Heaps will officiate. Interment will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta.
